Poem – There is a soldier within

There is a soldier within …

(this poem for week 60 of the Thursday Poets Rally Week can be found at The Promising Poets Parking Lot)

He is a man of stature
He is a giant among man
He is solid, made of rock
There is a soldier within

He wavers not, nor falls
He stands for his beliefs
He is compassionate
There is a soldier within

Tenderness walks next to him
Honor follows him
Loyalty is his friend
There is a soldier within

Battles tore at him
The battles did not win
Now he is home
There is a soldier within

Now the real battle begins
Who will understand him
Who will have the patience
There is a soldier within

Who will sit with him
Through the night
Who will listen to his fight
There is a soldier within

Your project is marvelous. It is simply wonderful. Thank you for placing my poem here. I write a god bit of war poetry. It comes straight from the heart. Those poems related to the Vietnam War are the poems that mean the most. Vietnam Veterans are my heroes … I suppose that the reason for this is that I am a part of the Vietnam War Era. I am so very grateful for each and every one who has served, but especially those who went to Vietnam.
